A lot of great things have been happening at SBMS this spring! We had a Chick-fil-A Spirit Night on March 31st and it was a huge success! We broke the records of all schools who have hosted spirit nights at the Silber location. And of course, we had to have the dancing cow! Thank you to all who came out and supported! All the money raised will go to the F.O.R. Club as we start reaching out to the community.
Chalk Guy
We also had a special guest speaker on Friday, April 4th! Ben Glenn, the Chalk Guy, came and spoke to our sixth graders. He shared his struggles with dyslexia, being labeled in school, speaking negatively of himself and others. Then he did an amazing chalk drawing for us and the best part is, we get to keep it!
And of course, in the middle of all this fun I have been reading! Right now, I am mostly excited for tomorrow when I get to travel to San Antonio for the Texas Library Convention! Author talks, library workshops and books, books, books!!
I am currently reading Quiet by Susan Cain and it is an interesting book! It is nonfiction and talking about the power of introverts. As a bit of an introvert myself, I find it very interesting. I tend to read more fiction than nonfiction, so this is a big change for me. Reading nonfiction is so much different, but I am learning a lot!
The two young adult books I have finished recently were AMAZING! The first was False Memory by Dan Krokos and the second was The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson. Two totally different books! While False Memory took me on a sci-fi adventure and left me waiting for the next book, The Impossible Knife of Memory was realistic fiction and so well done! It talks about the hard life of veterans and their families. It really opened my eyes to see how much these brave men and women endure as they serve, but also as they come home. I would highly recommend both of them!
